New exhibition:
Sélection tropicale
Paul-André Robert (1901-1977)
The Robert Collection Foundation’s new exhibition reveals previously little-known watercolours of plants and animals by Paul-André Robert (1901-1977). He successfully depicts the colourfulness of the exotic fauna and flora in authentic detail. Alongside parrots and butterflies on display there are also orchids, sea-shells and marine creatures.
When still very young, Paul-André Robert followed in the footsteps of his father Léo-Paul Robert, whose work he later continued. As well as comprehensively illustrating dragonflies and fungi, Paul-André’s art reached a special high-point in portrayals of exotic animals and plants.
Paul-André Robert lived in Jorat near Biel but often spent the winter months in warmer climes, such as Spain, Portugal, the south of France, Brazil, and Corsica. For instance, it was in Monaco at the Musée Océanographique that he drew his sea-shells and marine animals.
Now Biel’s Museum Neuhaus gives you the opportunity to wonder at a first-rate selection of paintings from the Robert Collection paintings which take you on a journey through tropical rain-forests and into the depths of the sea. Children can playfully explore the watercolours by piecing together giant jigsaw puzzles.
Marking Paul-André Robert’s 110th birthday, this is the first time that his exotic watercolours have been exhibited as a group. We invite you to get to know this new aspect of the Biel family of artists, the Roberts, and wish you much pleasure in the Museum Neuhaus.
